What's On Our Summer Playlist?

While we're all music fans at getsugar, our tastes and styles are pretty diverse and reflective of our lifestyles. So here, without further ado, is getsugar's summer playlist.

I love "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley. Why? It Makes me feel Craaaazy! In a good way. It's a cross between Moby and Terrence Trent D'Arby (does that date me?). "Sunday Morning" by Maroon Five is another new favorite. Friends of mine put this on their wedding CD. It's such a sweet and romantic, yet cool song. It sounds a lot like Jamiraquai, who I love. Plus, Adam Levine is hot. I just rediscovered "I Try" by Macy Gray while training for a 1/2 marathon. It's mesmerizing - a great running song - and definitely got me through mile 13.

We've been listening to a lot of Johnny Cash, spurred by the movie, but my husband's a longtime fan who grew up with classic country so we had all the CDs already. "Ring of Fire" is on my 5 1/2 year-old's playlist -- it is his favorite. He also likes Jack Johnson's "Banana Pancakes." I am into "Jackson" by Johnny Cash and "Wildwood Flower," covered by Reese Witherspoon. I have also taken a liking to Sonya Kitchell because I spend so much time in Starbucks working and it is on their playlist. My college-aged babysitter listens to the Veronicas because it is on her favorite TV show, "One Tree Hill."

For something retro, a quick search in i-Tunes for James Bond will bring up a lot of music, but my favorites are from Billy Strange's "Walk, Don't Run" CD. Awesome alternative party music! For something sweet, Katie Melua sings a mod version of The Cure's "Just Like Heaven," and it's tremendous! I saw her at the opening LTK party and fell immediately for her music. And something hip: "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley. I first heard this song a couple months ago at Middlesex when it was super-popular in the UK but hadn't hit the airwaves yet here. Love it!

Jolie Holland , "Crush in the Ghetto." A San Francisco based folk/alternative artist. Very pretty stuff. Hot Chip, "The Warning." UK electro-pop. Wrap your head in lush, melodic, chiming goodness. Picked this up in England and traveled with it across Europe as World Cup fever kicked into high gear. Alpha, "Back." One of my all time favorite songs. Trip hop at its most lyrical and atmospheric. See also: sunset, cool breeze and mojito.
