Summer tans will soon fade, leaving us with a blank (and hopefully, unwrinkled) canvas on which to create the perfect fall face. We clicked through dozens of fashion show pics and talked to local makeup mavens in order to identify three looks perfect for Boston beauties.
Black Eyed Beauty
The dark eye grabs everyone's attention, especially when paired with a glamorous, red lip. James Robitaille, trainer for MAC New England, tells us how MAC artists achieve this look, inspired by "La Dolce Vita". First, choose a black liquid liner. On the runways, the lines are often exaggerated, but for street wear, draw a thin line along the base of your upper lid. At the outside corner, turn it up for a winged effect. Unless you're vamping it up for evening, pair a neutral liner with your red lips. Alberta Feretti showed gold and peach lips with their black, double-rimmed, long-lashed eyes. For lash longevity, consider investing in eyelash extensions at LuxLash, which just moved to a larger studio on Newbury Street.
Bejeweled
Local boutiques cited jewel tones as an important element for fall faces. Rebecca Pimentel, owner of The Beauty Mark in Beacon Hill, recommends Chantecaille, whose products combine pure botanicals, essential oils and vitamins, and Delux Beauty, whose tagline is, "inspired by Hollywood," as lines that include fabulous jewel colors. Traci Evans, Director of Sales and Marketing at Beauty & Main, suggests striving for luxurious porcelain skin as the perfect start for a bejeweled makeup palette. She likes Laura Mercier's Flawless Face system as a base. For color, try Laura Mercier's Mineral Eye Powder, which comes in six new colors and can be applied wet or dry. Asteroid, Constellation and Meteor mimic sapphires, amethysts and emeralds.
Barefaced Baby
While plenty of designers were revisiting eras of glamour and power, others reveled in cleaner, fresh-faced looks. Superstar makeup artist Pat McGrath devised a bare-faced look for Stella McCartney's fall show. Complexions were dewy and glowing, lashes naked and lips lightly glossed. Makeup artist and International Artistic Director of Lancome, Gucci Westman, used a rosy palette on Peter Som's models, featuring pink cheeks and lavenderesque lips. Origins, a line oft-associated with a fresh, clean feel has products that will do nicely, like Brush-On Color for cheeks and their new Libra Lip Duo in Moonstruck Mauve.
