Designing Woman: Marissa B

We're always on the look out for young local designers who are doing their part to add a little sparkle to the Boston scene. Here, we introduce you to Marissa B., an East Boston-based jewelry designer whose handmade creations are at once colorful, dazzling and chic.

Who: Marissa Bethony, age 24.

What: Vibrantly designed earrings, necklaces and bracelets made from semi-precious stones and Swarovski crystals.

Where: Marissa B. Jewelry is available at over 60 stores across the country. You can find her colorful confections locally at Shake the Tree in the North End and Fire Opal in Jamaica Plain. Prices range from $40 for earrings to $178 for necklaces.

Why: Marissa, who grew up in Hingham and was a film major at Emerson College, started her company in 2003. "It's been evolving and growing ever since," she says. "My color inspiration comes from home fashion and textiles. I also consider current trends... blues and browns are so popular."

When: In early August, a new collection of 22K gold vermeil necklaces and earrings will be available at Shake the Tree.

What Else: "My cuff bracelets were included in a gift basket for the Billboard Music Awards and Paula Abdul was photographed wearing one."
